Storage costs are minimal, its the licensing costs that are extremely high. Note, Birdseye is still in Bing Maps. Coverage in the USA is current lower than before, but growing and has higher resolution imagery. EU coverage is more than it was before.

      rbrundritt - MSFT commented  ·

Unfortunately the cost of keeping the old imagery online is way too expensive to do this. Birdseye in general is not heavily used, the old imagery would be used even less. The cost vs the gain of having this doesn't work out.

Historical birdseye imagery will not be made available in the Bing Maps platform. Nor would we be able to send/give you the imagery. You could try contacting our data provider for the older imagery; www.blomasa.com/

There are no plans to expose unique ID's through the Bing Maps platform for locations. This is something that the team has considered for a while but ultimately it would cause issues later on as even our internal ID's change over time. Note that you can geocode data and store the coordinates in your data set for as long as you are using Bing Maps. So instead of store a unique ID, you can store the coordinates in your database.

This is something that has been discussed at length. Adding these would make the map much more crowded and the general feedback in user testing is to not display these.

This is contradictory to what we generally hear. When you license Bing Maps the terms of use/licensing details that applied when you signed the contract are the only ones that apply. When renew comes around then licensing details may be amended if there has been a change. Blocking of accounts typically only occurs when contracts end, or when a basic (non-enterprise) account exceeds the free limits. As for technical support, there is very good technical support available to all licensed customers: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/maps

Unfortunately the Open Street Maps data uses a Open Database License (ODbL) which makes it difficult. This license says that if you mix data from multiple data sources (like the premium data Bing Maps licenses from other data providers) with OSM data in a database all of the data must be made open source. The Bing Maps team is working with the OSM community to make the licensing more commercially friendly.

                    rbrundritt - MSFT commented  ·

Bing Maps has been working with Open street maps for over 7 years now. Bing Maps has been making its aerial imagery available to the Open street maps community so that users can trace and create data from these images. If you search the open street maps wiki you will find nearly 1,500 results for "bing maps". Most recently the Bing Maps team just provided 9.8 million building footprints to the community: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Microsoft_Building_Footprint_Data

The Bing Maps and Open Street Maps community has been working together and has a good relationship.

Birdseye is still there. There was an error for UK users where the feature was disabled for about a week. This has since been resolved.

Bing Maps now also has a distance matrix API which can be used to do this: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/mt827298.aspx

You can use the Routing service in Bing Maps to calculate driving distances between locations. The routing service also up to 25 waypoints to be passed into a single request, If your starting point is "S" and your destinations are A, B , C... you can calculate a route from S-A-S-B-S-C... The response from the service will have an array of route legs. The distance for all the odd indexed legs will be the distance from S to each destination. Using the routing service you can get 12 distances with a single request.

This is by design. If you developers could programmatically generate Bing Maps keys, some would abuse such a service. As it is, there is a ton of abuse with this manual process already where people are creating multiple accounts/keys to get around free limits. We are going through and shutting these down, but some are simply creating new accounts right after. If there was a programmatic way to create keys it would be extremely difficult to keep these abusers from causing harm to the service and affecting other users.

What website? When you say "your browser (bing)" it sounds like you are talking about a web browser not the Bing website which would make sense. It's highly likely that the site you are using is saying Bing when it should be saying Internet Explorer version...

This looks like the old Bing Maps add-in that the Office team created and replaced a while ago by the built in mapping functionality in Excel. In excel, go to insert and under the charts section there is a Filled Maps option. Beside the charts section is a 3D Maps option as well which is better for point based data.

Traffic camera data is licensed from a 3rd party company and can only be used on the Bing Maps site and not through any of the developer API's. You can license this data from another company and overlay it on top of Bing Maps. Here is one API as an example: http://www.trafficland.com/api

Also note that Bing Maps V6.3 which uses "VE" named classes, is set to be retired at the end of this month. You should consider migrating your app to Bing Maps V8.

The Bing Maps website is a consumer endpoint, not a business site. Visualizing large datasets can be done using the Bing Maps developer API's. With the developers API's an enterprise account can create up to 25 data sources having up to 600,000 shapes in them.

The image provided shows building footprints which Bing Maps already has in a lot of areas.

Bing Maps used to have Venue Maps which provided detailed floor plans of buildings. Unfortunately, after being available for many years, the usage by users was really low. Given the high cost and low usage, it didn't make sense to continue providing this feature in newer versions.

Business listings in Bing maps is managed by Bing places. Fix your info there and it will show up in Bing maps. The Bing maps team has excellent support for enterprise customers who use the API, but again business listings are managed through Bing places.
